CHEELO MWIINGA

I hold a Master's Degree of Medicine in Paediatrics and Child Health from the University of Zambia, with over thirteen years of experience in the medical field with particular interest in infectious diseases. I have worked in various roles under the Ministry of Health at local and national level. I have been involved in drawing up treatment guidelines at University Teaching Hospitals - Children hospitals and the National TB guidelines for Zambia. I have been actively involved in the national response to outbreaks such as COVID 19, Measles and Cholera.

• For my Masters degree dissertation, I conducted research on “The burden of Urinary Tract Infections in children under 60 months presenting with febrile illnesses to the Out-Patient Department of The University Teaching Hospitals, Children’s Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia”, current
• Technical Advisor for the Centre of Disease Control Evaluation of the implementation of the shorter treatment regimen for children and adolescents with non-severe TB in Zambia, 06/2023, current
• Coordinator (Sample collection) for The Fungal Disease Genomics Surveillance Pilot Study, My role was to offer professional services as a coordinator for the collection of clinical samples from various health facilities in Lusaka in the study which is a collaboration between the University of Zambia, School of Health Sciences and the University of Witwatersrand South Africa. I was involved in coordinating the sample collection of critically ill hospital patients, including neonates, infants, children and adults. Other responsibilities included ensuring the quality and integrity of the samples. Liaising with the Project Principal Investigator and other stakeholders.
