- To ensure that all personnel are working safely and according to job instructions
- To ensure safety talks (tools box meetings) are held promptly and shift starts on time
- To make sure the inspections of the pit and any irregularities found, should be corrected by area shift boss
- Tread and sign the logbooks and ensure legal (mining regulations) Compliance
- To receive the hand over from the outgoing counterpart etc
- Coordinate mine operations activities with other departments and contractors
- Train and develop a diverse workforce in the safe and efficient operation of equipment
