Director- Pharmaceutical Services

  • Company Overview: Ministry of Health-Luapula province
  • I run the operational management of pharmaceutical services to 100,000 residents in a rural, remote area of Zambia with no access to clean water, electricity and roads while promoting healthy living among the locals
  • I partnered with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to offer pharmaceutical and clinical care services at Mantapala refugee camp in Nchelenge district of luapula province
  • I provided medical supplies, consumables and pharmaceuticals services to the refugees in distress who would crossover on boats and canoes from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
  • I implemented a working model through our Mobile Hospital Trucks to reach remote areas of luapula province to provide health services in underserved communities to the last mile
  • I designed a template to be used as a tool for close coordination and organized medical supplies, drugs and consumables for different facilities and evaluated the requirements of distribution by taking average monthly consumption of each facility into account as Pharmacy Warehouse Manager
  • This reduced the number of stockouts and avoided having expiry of pharmaceuticals through early detection and redistribution across health facilities
  • I trained over 30 clinicians and health personnel in pharmacovigilance reporting on adverse drug reactions and monitoring, and developed an institutional drug formulary for medical doctors at the hospital, health centers, and health posts
  • To combat antimicrobial abuse and resistance, I put prescription restrictions on antibiotics depending on the level of qualification and training of personnel, and the level of service cap of each facility
  • Ministry of Health-Luapula province
  • Introduced a failsafe system for the easy access of drugs to people in rural areas that had only previously been available in cities
  • Pioneered the formation of community support groups promoting safe motherhood campaigns and scaled up nutritional programs for pregnant mothers in rural areas
  • Tasked as the Technical Lead on Result Based Financing (RBF) project for the World Bank, I designed a working model with a points-based system allowing close monitoring of achievements met by health personnel for each birth delivered by a trained midwife
  • This scaled up the number of deliveries attended by trained health personnel from 20 weekly to 60 per week out of 100 deliveries
  • Created a multicultural network of colleagues and improved my communication skills even further when I carried out field projects of partner organisations with the ministry of health
  • UK Chevening Scholarship Award for Global Leadership in 2019 by the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office(FCDO) to study an MSc degree in the UK
