Trachoma Elimination Project

Supporting the Ministry of Health in implementing the National Trachoma elimination program across 30 districts.

  • Development and tracking of the 4 year trachoma elimination project with a portfolio of ZMW 40M
  • Providing leadership by managing, coordinating, and advising on technical matters, and allocating resources to support surgeries, antibiotic treatment, and WASH interventions aimed at eliminating trachoma.
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, lead the development of country level action and implementation plan on Neglected tropical diseases through the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Master plan 2022-2026.
  • Collaborated with the national neglected tropical diseases unit to enhance capacity building of health personnel in delivering effective trachoma elimination interventions
  • Successfully compiling donor reports and gathered case studies highlighting project achievements
  • Supporting the completion of the Trachoma elimination dossier to be submitted to the World Health organisation when the country claims elimination.
  • Supported the delivery of Trachoma surveillance surveys in Northwestern, MUchinga and Northern provinces.

Inclusive Eye Health Project

Supported implementation of inclusive eye health project in 12 districts of Eastern and Muchinga province by fulfilling outlined roles;

  • Prepared and tracked a three-year project budget with a portfolio of ZMW 2.2 Million.
  • Contributed to the implementation of a targeted social behavior plan aimed at expanding eye health service utilization among women and individuals with disabilities
  • Facilitated the development of health staff and community-based volunteers' skills in delivering quality eye health services through targeted training initiatives.
  • Tracked project targets according to the implementation plan and project indicators and provided remedial action where required.
  • Effectively communicated project updates to diverse range of stakeholders, including internal and external parties through reports, case studies and presentations.

Advocacy ( Disability Inclusion)

Advocacy work is around the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the implementation of the SDGs. advocacy activities involved in are as follows;

  • Supported OPDs in developing commitments and lobbied government to include them in their presentation at the 2022 global disability summit.
  • Supported the development of the Civil Society and Organizations for Persons with Disabilities shadow report on the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Involved in the Sightsavers equal world campaign advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities.
  • Contributing to efforts in ratifying the African Disability Protocol by working alongside 6 organizations for Persons with Disabilities, such as the Albinism Foundation of Zambia, Disability Rights Watch, ZAFOD, and Cheshire homes ( awareness raising, stakeholder engagement)
  • Contributed to the successful launch of a parliamentary caucus focused on disability, inclusion, and rights resulting in the enrollment of 88 parliamentarians.
  • Delivered capacity building activities to enhance the ability of OPDs under the Zambia Federation for Disability Organisations in conducting effective gender and disability awareness training.

  • Preparation of a shadow report for the SDG high level political forumn including the voice of persons with disabilities.
  • Agreed IEC materials for advocacy on the ratification of the African disability protocol.

Onchocerciasis and Lymphatic Filariasis Project

Supporting a new project in its initial stages , the Reaching the Last Mile project targeting the elimination of ochocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis in targeted districts.

  • Supported the development of project proposal by offering responses to donor questions on country context.
  • Working with the University of Zambia and the Ministry of Health to finalise project implementation plan.

Economic Empowerment/ Future Makers Project

Economic empowerment programme which supports businesses to employ persons with disabilities. The project supports persons with disabilities to develop skills, confidence and experience to successfully gain work.

  • Collaborated with the Zambia Federation of Employers to train employers on effectively including individuals with disabilities.
  • Working with Challenges Zambia train persons with disabilities on business management.
  • Link persons with disabilities to employers so that they can be mentored on various aspects of getting and retaining employment.
  • Support the development and the launch of the Zambia Business Disability network which will champion inclusion of persons with disabilities in the work place.

  • Designated as safeguarding lead, responsible for training and policy adherence of all staff and partners.

  • Serve as a representative for the organization at significant forums such as the Eye Health Advocacy Network and NGO WASH Forum.

SCREEN Country Project Manager

Project aim was to promote health on various health issues including teenage pregnancy, mental health and gender based violence through the use of film to raise awareness in rural communities of Zambia.

Country Neglected Tropical Diseases Manager

Supported the Ministry of Health with oversight of the National Trachoma Elimination programme using the WHO

recommended SAFE strategy of providing Surgery, Antibiotic treatment through mass drug Administration and; facial and Environmental improvement for the prevention of Trachoma transmission. Coordinated the efforts of Four other implementing partners supporting trachoma elimination ( Akros, Lions Aid Norway, Orbis and Operation Eye Sight Universal). Project portfolio ZMW 161M

• Developed annual plans and budgets to guide Trachoma elimination programme delivery in country.

• Developed M and E plan alongside project implementation plans

• Provided oversight and leadership to ensure that activities were implemented to a high standard according to the project work plan and WHO standards in Southern, Western, North Western, Muchinga, Eastern, Copperbelt, Northern and Luapula provinces.

• Overall programme management of the Super school of Five WASH initiative targeting face and hand washing among school going children in Southern province

• Supply chain management of Zithromax for use during National Trachoma Mass drug Administration exercise (drug quantification and allocation by district, support MoH with drug requests to International Trachoma Initiative, generation of national Trachoma inventory for submission to ITI).

  • Devised in-depth plans for comprehensive guidance and direction for trachoma baseline, impact and surveillance surveys country wide.
