Lion Monitoring Team Coordinator

  • Lead the Lion Protection Monitoring Team – Managing the Guide and Scout(s) assigned to your team
  • Using Panthera and Zambia Carnival Program (ZCP) protocols, track, locate and monitor lion prides in Kafue National Park (KNP)
  • Record all necessary data (relevant to both Panthera and ZCP) using protocols in SMART and on necessary ZCP data forms
  • Share and upload this data through relevant avenues – i.e. loading data into SMART or loading data forms into relevant excel spreadsheets
  • Spend time ID’ing individual carnivores that are seen
  • Present at DNPW Monthly Planning meetings with relevant information to inform patrol deployment (together with ZCP and much like ZCP do now)
  • Be in close communication with DNPW to inform them of your movements and so that patrol effort and your efforts don’t double up
  • Be responsible for all equipment associated with this project (InReach, Telemetry equipment, laptop, camera, vehicle etc.)
  • Help orient the new Panthera intern that will be managing the Lion Monitoring Team 2.

KLAWS Program Coordinator

  • Coordinate all logistical and organisational support to the Lubungu pontoon and Lunga Pontoon intensive protection zones
  • Provide logistical and organisational support to Panthera in country Directors, KLAWS operational manager, the Kafue SMART coordinator and all other KLAWS staff and cooperating partners.

  • Coordinate low- and high-level meetings with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and its cooperating partners on programmatic matters.
  • Standardize of all operational arrangements between DNPW and Panthera across the KLAWS program (this specifically includes bonuses and allowances).
  • Develop and implement a monthly payment plan for setting up payments for procurements, bonuses and allowances.
  • Coordinate and implement a Panthera vehicle fleet management and maintenance plan
  • Manage the first aid equipment of Panthera Camp
  • All other duties as assigned by the Panthera Directors in association with the KLAWS program
  • Additional responsibilities to the Big Cat Trafficking included:
  • Provide logistical and organisational support to the Counter Wildlife Crime (CWC) Regional Coordinator: Southern Africa and CWC team
  • Provide logistical and organisational support to CWC training events
  • Serve as conduit for information between DNPW, members of the Panthera CWC team and WCP Legal Assistants, particularly with respect to the timely reporting of apprehensions by KLAWS teams
  • Assist with the management and collection of information from Human Encounters books (including developing a workable and efficient system for receiving digital and hard copies of the books)

Kafue Law-Enforcement and Wildlife Support (KLAWS) Operations Manager Southern Kafue

  • To manage all operational, logistical, tactical and organisational support to the Mulobezi GMA and Sichifulo GMA intensive protection zones
  • To provide administrational, logistical and organisational support to Panthera in country Directors, program and patrol coordinators, SMART coordinator, Law Enforcement advisor, Wildlife monitoring, Community engagement, all other Panthera staff and cooperating partners on the Southern Kafue Program.
  • To oversee the programs support to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) with all technical and operational needs including supporting the team with SMART implementation, Earth ranger implementation, undertaking debriefs, planning patrols with DNPW and monitoring adherence to patrol plans and incident response in accordance with the goals of Panthera on the Southern Kafue Program.
  • Oversee the operations of both Mulobezi and Dundumezi operations support bases.
  • Manage and empower both program and patrol coordinators for Dundumezi and Mulobezi on the Southern Kafue program in accordance with their contracts. Note this includes setting in for the program and patrol coordinators when they are away to support urgent needs in their roles as needed.
  • Building, maintaining and strengthening the relationship between Panthera, The Department of National Parks and Wildlife and all Panthera's partners and partnerships in wildlife conservation. This includes relationship development, inter-organization team building sessions and consulting with DNPW mid-level and senior management as required, in accordance with the goals of Panthera on the Southern Kafue Program.
  • Organize and manage high level meetings with DNPW, Community Resource boards (CRBs) and its cooperating partners on programmatic matters across the Southern Kafue Program together with the Southern Kafue Program Manager.
  • Working together with the Southern Kafue Program Manager and the Panthera DNPW coordinator to oversee standardization of all support between CRBs, DNPW and Panthera across the Southern Program.
  • Liaise with donors; prepare grant reports, grant applications and monthly financial reports.
  • Budget management and financial reporting us required.
  • Prepare overall operational, resourcing and logistics reports each month and as directed by manager.
  • Partake in all cooking and cleaning responsibilities that are expected within a team at the Panthera base and in field situations.
