  • Supervised the setup of a follow-up clinic for Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, specific general medical patients, including those who had an ICU stay.
  • System strengthening through the setup of safe referral systems from 13 hospitals (including first and second level hospitals). Protocol designing and dissemination of up-to-date treatment guidelines.
  • Conducts regular teaching and mentorship, both bedside and classroom-based, to rotating medical students, intern doctors, and general medical officers. Took advantage of Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Zoom to provide online tutorials and advocate talks for improving emergency care in a low-resource setting. Utilisation of telemedicine through WhatsApp to support management of critically ill in the intensive care unit in rural Zambia. I have also mentored 2 medical doctors for enrolment into a competitive emergency medicine specialist training in South Africa, Cape Town, and also mentored them to obtain a competitive graduate scholarship with Beit Trust for the academic year 2025.
  • Introduced a formalised patient triage system for the department and customised appropriate critical patient assessment forms and monitoring tools in Intensive Care Unit
  • Advocated for the employment of health workers. 4 doctors and 20 nurses, 1 dietitian were informed during a 4-month period in 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also, collaborated/co-authored with McMaster University research team led by Sara Alavian to conduct research titled 'A needs assessment for formal emergency medicine curriculum and training in Zambia,' which has been submitted (8 July 2024) for publication to the African Journal of Emergency Medicine.

  • Trainer for the Ministry of Health in Zambia for a structured in-service course called Emergency Obstetrics and Neonatal Care (EmONC). The course was a competence-based training delivered over three weeks, with classroom learning using blended learning methods from didactic, case studies, role plays, and simulation. The course included 2 weeks of practical time with learning by simulation on models/manikins and apprenticeship in the real hospital environment using a mentor-mentee model. Successful completion of the course required passing a theory test and a structured clinical examination (practical assessment). These trainings were supported by ZISSP and JHPIEGO through the Ministry of Health, Zambia.
  • Participated in structured follow-up health facility visits following emergency obstetrics and neonatal care (EmONC) training, which was called a mentorship program in EmONC, where trainees were followed to their work site to ascertain the implementation of the course and to provide coaching in their work environment through bedside teaching, hands-on, and clinical skills transfer by apprenticeship. This mentorship program was supported by JHPIEGO through the Ministry of Health, Zambia.
  • Trainer in neonatal resuscitation program called "Helping Babies Breathe" between Feb 2012 and Feb 2016. The 2 days course Targeted in-service teaching/training using simulation. Successful completion of the course required candidates to pass a clinical assessment (OSCE).The trainings were supported by MCHIP(Maternal Child Health Integrated program ) and the USAID through Ministry of Health ,Zambia.
  • Learning facilitator/trainer in long term family planning and postpartum intra-uterine device.Course targeted health care workers working in Zambia with a goal to transfer skills of device insertion .Manikins/models were used and then coaching in the practical area was mandatory to assist learners translate classroom based learning to practice on real patients.Successful completion of the course required a log book completion of intra-uterine devices inserted.
  • Conducted teaching in the skills lab to the University of Cape Town Undergraduate medical students between Jan,2017 to Feb, 2020 as a mandatory requirement during the specialist emergency medicine training .The skills lab had high fidelity manikin simulators for training students in a simulation manner.Participated in their formal emergency clinical skills assessment.
  • Manage the Junior doctors clerkship program at Solwezi General Hospital in Zambia from Jul 2021 to date.Designing objectives for their rotation/clerkship in internal medicine /emergency department and intensive care. Participate in the intern doctors learning journey through bed side teaching ,major ward rounds, medical emergencies protocal development and conducting regular tutorials.Preparing their end of block assessments mainly clinical examination format done orally and demonstration of a critical procedure.
  • Participated in a regular Continuous Medical Education (CME) program to transfer knowledge and skills to the local health workforce in Papua New Guinea in the past two years. As a mandatory succession plan requirement for expatriate physicians in International SOS. The CMEs included the development and conducting of emergency drills in a simulated manner to assist with facility emergency readiness.

  • Analyzed data on a daily basis for decision making in terms of identifying hot spots for the development of a multi-disciplinary technical support and supervision.
  • Developed and implemented 2 local training concepts to improve COVID-19 case management between May and 30th September, 2021. Total staff trained: 109, out of planned 90, giving a percentage turn up of 120%. This reduced referrals from peripheral COVID centers by 30% and encouraged appropriate patient referrals. 100% of patients received at the biggest Provincial COVID center (Solwezi General Hospital) have been discussed with the accepting doctor.
  • Conducted one on-site mentorship to five districts' COVID centers, which were identified as hot spots and with significant mortalities, in order to improve COVID-19 case management outcomes.
  • Advocated through the Provincial Health director for procurement of critical care equipment that included oxygen delivery devices, such as non-rebreather masks, and ensured oxygen availability in all districts, including the biggest COVID 19 centre, Solwezi General Hospital, through partner engagement (both local from the Mining Companies and international, USAID).

  • Conducted transfer of a cardiac failure patient from Kasama to Lusaka (University Teaching Hospital)
  • Supervised the transfer of head injury patient from Mwinilunga District Hospital to University Teaching Hospital(Lusaka)
  • Worked as medic command to receive calls to assess patients with attending clinicians in order to decide on the right team capacity to conduct the medical evacuation of the patient or to provide alternative transfer means.
