Duties/Responsibilities:

• Responsibilities of a Medical Laboratory Technologist include:
• To carry out routine diagnostic tests and manage all technical and administrative functions of the laboratory/unit at the hospital in order to facilitate decision making
• Supervision: Review the work of subordinates and test results
• Coordination: To coordinate the plans and budgets of the unit sections under his/her supervision
• Monitoring: Monitor the training progress of employees and students and the orientation of new employees
• Evaluation: Evaluate workloads, pace, equipment and staffing for the effective operation of the laboratory/unit under supervision.
• Quality Assurance: Review the quality control of various procedures, perform and direct evaluation and application of new procedures.
• Research: To be able to conduct and publish research findings.
• B. Skills and Experience
• Able to run the molecular techniques in the clinical pathology, clinical chemistry and research such as the following.
• Real-Time PCR.
• Covid19 PCR testing.
• Gene expert machine
• CD4 Numeration (BD fact count machine)
• Viral load testing
• Humastar 600, Mindray BS200, 240 and Biobase 280
• Microscopy, culture and sensitivity for samples such as blood, sputum, urine, pus, stool, skin scrapping and all other body fluids
• Hematology laboratory responsibilities include the following
• Full blood count using machines such as pentra 60, sysmex, mindray BC5380
• Peripheral blood smear analysis.
• Sickling test analysis.
• Differential blood smear count.
• Blood cross matching and compatibility testing
• Immunology and Serology laboratory responsibilities include the following
• Immunological tests on Cobas E411 such as CA125, PSA etc.
• Serological tests such as RPR, HIV screening etc.

• To oversee and manage the implementation of quality management control.
• To advance the establishment of good inventory management system, commodity security, stores management and logistics: facilitate verification and validation exercises for the different PCR platform area approved and introduced
• To provide supervisory oversight of highly complex PCR testing services.
• Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures, and workforce competences to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
• Ensure maintenance of updated procedures for all tasks performed within the team and see to it that there is development.
• To ensure that there is development in implementation and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness
