This is a mechanized second largest open pit emerald mine in Zambia

• Enforcing mining regulations through control, supervision and direction of a mine in accordance with Mining Regulation 202
• Ensure timely preparation and submission of all statutory reports to the Ministry of Mines
• I ensure economic extraction of emeralds through application of suitable mining methods and techniques
• Ensure the maintenance manager adheres to industry best practices and government standards in record keeping and maintenance of all equipment onsite
• Perform the function of liaison between the mine and government, civic leaders and traditional leaders in the absence of the mine manager

• Appointed by the Sternblick LafargeHolcim Production Manager, I was a representative between Lafarge and Afrimining to foster a good relationship while meeting set out safety and production targets
• Enforcing and implementation of all applicable provisions of the Group Health and Safety Management System (HSMS), applicable Environmental Management System (EMS), Mines and Minerals Act Mining (Management and Safety) Regulations, Explosives Regulations, Environmental Management Act, Factories and Works Act and other applicable statutory instruments and industry best practices
• Oversaw the optimum extraction of various grades of limestone and other requisite additives as planned by LafargeHolcim
• Control and manage the Quarry costs on the contractor side
• Talent management, people development, key resources retention, succession planning and management and control of all industrial relations issues within the site
• I was responsible for enforcement of all site-specific procedures applicable to the scope of work as guided by the contractual agreement
• I managed the wellbeing of 150 employees by ensuring that they are efficient and safe in their day to day activities
• I also reviewed and updated site-specific procedures applicable to operations under the control of the Quarry Contractor routinely, ensuring that they are up to date and valid

• In my role of Assistant Mine Manager, I was responsible for enforcing mining regulations through control, supervision and direction of a mine in accordance with Mining Regulation 202
• I also ensured timely preparation and submission of statutory reports to the Ministry of Mines
• In the role of Planning Engineer, I was responsible for coming up with short and medium term mining plans by designing interim mining pits, dumps and water drainage systems using Surpac GEOVIA, a mine design software
• I also monitored and ensured that mining of the pit is according to design and company and acceptable industry safety standards

• Carried out a research project aimed at improving the business portfolio of the mine - "A comparative study of cost benefits and implications of direct tip versus dedicated tip fleet".
• Preliminary cost benefit analysis (CBA) indicated that direct tipping operated together with a system I proposed was US$10 million cheaper than dedicated tip
• Found that direct tipping fleet had 8% better utilization than dedicated fleet and presented better opportunities for reducing operating costs
• Analyzed and proposed ways of mitigating operational challenges that would increase production of copper ore by at least 0.5 million tonnes

• Worked with all departments in the mine to learn the practical aspects of mining spanning from development to production
• Participated in loading, stemming and timing of blast holes both underground and in the open pit - achieved the desired fragmentation through optimized use of explosives
• Participated in the testing of AEL's new Digishot Electronic blasting module
