ADASH Online Vibration Monitoring System, Project Engineer under Instrumentation for the implementation of an Online Vibration Monitoring System for Reliability and Condition Monitoring Section so as to improve on asset management, real time condition monitoring of key production equipment., Installed, wired Adash units and vibration sensors on gyratory crushers, cone crushers, conveyor belts, gearboxes, motors and pumps for the core purpose of monitoring vibrations on critical mechanical bearings conditions for all crushing, conveying and flotation transfer pump circuits at Kansanshi concentrator., Planned, designed and implemented a LAN Network for the online vibration monitoring system comprising of Ethernet/Optic fibers which was interfaced to the main servers for reliability and condition monitoring team., Improved preventive maintenance approach by ensuring that weekly time spent on manual condition monitoring data collection done by technicians in the field was reduced through online monitoring.
Metso HP300 Cone Crusher, Part of the commissioning team representing instrumentation for a metso hp 300 cone crusher installation and commissioning., Interpret manufactures electrical schematic drawings and interface the instrumentation or controls from the vendor to plant programmable logic controller., Add additional instruments (pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, speed and level sensors) to the crushers and improve on critical parameters measurement and monitoring through SCADA.
Kansanshi Mine Plant Disaster Recovery Network. The main objectives of this project were to: Study the existing fiber optic cables layout of the entire concentrator plant of Kansanshi Mine control system network inter-connecting over 30 LV substations hosting Siemens S7 400 programmable logic controllers., Plan and Design new fiber optic rings covering the entire plant then inter-connect them with the existing network to act as a disaster recovery network., Improve control system network reliability, bandwidth and scalability.Laid / terminated and tested new 2 × 1000m 96-core ADSS single mode fiber used as backbone fiber connecting new remote server room to main plant control system network this made it easy troubleshooting fiber links and improved traffic flow.Laid / terminated and tested new 2× 2000m 24-core single mode fiber cables interconnecting critical substations resulting in an improvement on network redundancy and scalability.Installed new network infrastructure which included communication cabinets, patch panels, media converter chassis, media converters, 1310nm&1550nm single port 1gigabit/s SFPs and Cisco Switches with 4×1gigabit/s uplink ports this improved bandwidth and throughput for all main controllers (PLCs) communication links to the servers from the initial installation of 100MB/s to 1Gig/s.Configured newly installed Cisco switches according to the company private production network.
Kansanshi Sulphide (S2) Concentrate Upgrade, Commissioning of the new sulphide concentrate plant with regard to control system networks, Ensured that all communication cables (optic fiber, industrial Ethernet, profibus-Dp and profibus-PA) were laid according to the cable Schedule.Ensured that terminations of Ethernet cables on all motor drives, network switches, media converters, switchgears and programmable logic controllers were done according to company set standards to reduce on equipment communication failures during start-up and operation., Offered support to the optic fiber cables splicing team by ensuring that splice losses achieved were minimal and complied to the set plant company standard of 0.02dB max fusion splice loss.Tested profibus-Dp communication cables linking all remote terminal units and uninterruptible power supplies to the main controller (PLC) using profitrace as a tool. Generated reports advised accordingly and ensured that irregularities were smoothened out prior to start-up.Tested and certified all laid fiber optic cables for the new plant using an OTDR as a testing tool. Interfaced the entire concentrate upgrade plant control system network to the existing plant production network. Also ensured that redundancy in the network was achieved by using two separate fiber optic cables to establish links between main plant server room and the primary controller (PLC) for the new plant.
Connected two stand-alone Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) for Copper Cathode Stripping Machines at one of Kansanshi Mine electro-winning Plants to the main I/O Server situated at the Engineering sever room which is 4km away. This allowed continuous remote monitoring of process/engineering parameters at the electro-winning plant. Fault finding was also improved, this reduced down time i.e. increased copper stripping.
Implemented IFM online vibration monitoring system on all milling circuits (6) mills at Kansanshi mine. Vibration measurements were done on each mill motor drive-end and non-drive end bearings, mill gearbox bearings and pinion shafts bearings. This improved condition monitoring for key machine components and enhanced reliability.
Implemented / designed a small control room for the Emergency Response Team (ERT). This had SCADA and CCTV 24/7 monitoring. This project helped the mine fire department to monitor the plant water fire lines critical conditions such as fire lines water pressure, valves positions, flow rates etc. so as to act proactively during maintenance or in the case of a fire emergency. CCTV gave the safety department a clear view of happening in the plant. Any misconduct with regard to safety of personnel/equipment operating could be captured.
Installed SMS Relays on small mobile crushers at one of the mine main pit. This allowed remote monitoring of the start/ stop of these small crushers. Run time was monitored remotely.
Implemented varies wireless access points which were integrated to the main process control system network for SCADA access.
I designed and implemented an optic fiber communication ring linking two primary crushers (Gyratory and Jaw Crusher) to the main process control system network so as to improve on redundancy and communication system reliability.
Migration of all Optical size analyzer cameras eight (8) in total installed on key conveyor belts and crushed ore feeders to a Virtual Machine.
Installed and implemented a Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) meant for in-pit crushers. Conveyor belts speed, stockpile level, motors winding temperature, vibrations and other parameters were measured and communication was done through an installed fiber optic cable.
