THE EFFECT OF WHEAT (Triticum aestivum) AND SUNFLOWER (Helianthus annuus) STRAW AS AN ALLELOPATHY APPLICATION TO PROVIDE SUSUTAINABLE WEED MANAGEMENT AND IMPROVE SOIL FERTILITY (MAINLY ORGANIC CARBON CONTENT), The project was basically looking at sustainable and organic ways of suppressing weeds at the same time enhancing the soil fertility by using wheat and sunflower straw mulch as Allelopathic application,(Chemical herbicides are not only expensive but also harmful to the environment). As such serious intervention have to be made that will be cheaper and available to our local small scale farmers and prevent the problems of soil degradation following the climate change which is as a result of Global warming and allelopathy can be used (straw mulching) for it is good for water retention.
