  • To plan and direct the design, installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment in order to keep plant idle time to acceptable minimum to meet customer demand for castings, mill balls and other foundry products

  • In the early 1980s it became a subsidiary of the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM)
  • In 1998, the company was re-privatized and it is currently owned by private investors who work closely with a Management team of professionals
  • The company is one of the largest foundries in Zambia with a work force of 500+ employees
  • It has a production capacity of 30,000 tons of cast grinding media, 18,000 tons of forged balls, 12,000 tons of mill balls and 1,800 tons of other castings per annum
  • As Head maintenance, the main responsibility is to work hand in hand with Engineering manager and coordinate all various sections ranging from Electrical to mechanical, Fabrication, Property maintenance, production and process control etc to achieve monthly set plant availability target of 95%
  • Which has been successfully attained for over a year now
  • To plan, organise and control all maintenance works in the plant so as to sustain day to day operations to meet production target within minimal costs

Maintenance Engineering Planner

  • Company Overview: Group R mining and Exploration was in charge of running day to day mining operations of Mopani SOB shaft and development works
  • Schedule maintenance- make weekly and monthly maintenance schedules of the equipment

  • Ensure brake tests, fire suppression systems, oil samples collection are all update
  • Major Rebuilds Execution- Plan and execute major equipment rebuilds according to OEM specification so as to prolong the life of the machinery and maximise production
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors- communicate work scope and monitor that its carried out as stipulated
  • Ensure completion of work in time and good safety compliance
  • Communication- Carry out all communications with the suppliers and subcontractors, follow up on warranty products and make claims where necessary
  • Inspect suppliers work sites to ensure their eligibility to perform quality work supply
  • Backlog jobs- Follow up requested pending spares and plan for backlog jobs, ensure that premature failures of major components from suppliers are rectified accordingly
  • Request and receive correct required material to assist Engineering team, advice stores on technical information
  • To update Engineering team in advance about the performance and hours on components in order to avoid complete failure and secondary damage
