• To plan and direct the design, installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment in order to keep plant idle time to acceptable minimum to meet customer demand for castings, mill balls and other foundry products
• Supervise planning and projects to ensure they are implemented within budget and according to specifications
• Controls cost and implements measures of cost optimisation in the department
• Makes departmental budget and monitor its implementations
• To analyse and determine plant technology, materials and labour needs, based on market demand in order to proactively plan and assess the feasibility of customer projects
• Ensures maintenance and fabrication tasks are carried out safely, according to the Factories Act to prevent injuries to plant crews and damage to equipment
• Plans plant and equipment maintenance to reduce Mean Time To Repair
• Plans and executes engineering projects efficiently to increase plant productivity
• Liaises with other department heads to ensure overall maintenance requirements are identified and addressed promptly to reduce idle time
• Ensures engineering drawings and manuals are kept in order and securely

• Company Overview: SCAW is a foundry business which was established in 1960 and was originally owned by Anglo-American Corporation
• In the early 1980s it became a subsidiary of the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM)
• In 1998, the company was re-privatized and it is currently owned by private investors who work closely with a Management team of professionals
• The company is one of the largest foundries in Zambia with a work force of 500+ employees
• It has a production capacity of 30,000 tons of cast grinding media, 18,000 tons of forged balls, 12,000 tons of mill balls and 1,800 tons of other castings per annum
• As Head maintenance, the main responsibility is to work hand in hand with Engineering manager and coordinate all various sections ranging from Electrical to mechanical, Fabrication, Property maintenance, production and process control etc to achieve monthly set plant availability target of 95%
• Which has been successfully attained for over a year now
• To plan, organise and control all maintenance works in the plant so as to sustain day to day operations to meet production target within minimal costs
• Coordinate all Section Engineers and Production supervisors in both planning and work execution
• Receives daily all works orders and updates the works schedule in order to facilitate systematic equipment planning maintenance
• Plans and schedules all maintenance works loads for maintenance crew to facilitate systematic maintenance on equipment/plant and ensure effective utilization of labour and spares
• Estimates labour requirements, sets job completion times and priorities for the work load schedules to reduce equipment down time
• Supervises the completion and procession of daily/weekly schedules and updating of equipment backlog jobs to ensure that the process is timely and correctly undertaken
• Monitors the procurement of spares/material requirement for the maintenance and ensure that these are readily available on site to reduce down times
• Carries out technical analysis and cost implications on feedback information from works executed by maintenance crew
• Produces daily, weekly and monthly reports on maintenance works status, man hours requirements, down time, availability and reliability, overtime and maintenance cost incurred for management information and decision making
• Responsible for the implementation, understating and compliance of all safety rules and quality management system

• Company Overview: Group R mining and Exploration was in charge of running day to day mining operations of Mopani SOB shaft and development works
• Schedule maintenance- make weekly and monthly maintenance schedules of the equipment
• Ensure all service kits and required spares are in place
• Ensure quality service is done and keep records
• Cost controller- control the monthly budget by reviewing the various quotations from suppliers and still ensuring quality spares
• Quality Inspector- inspect the quality of the spares bought and the quality of work from subcontractors
• Ensure all work done is of acceptable standards
• Collect test certificates and witness certification of repair spares
• Report generation- compile daily, weekly and monthly reports which reflects the status of the company's operations, availability and utilization of equipment
• Equipment Audit- Conduct monthly equipment audits to ensure all are in good compliance with safety standards
• Ensure brake tests, fire suppression systems, oil samples collection are all update
• Major Rebuilds Execution- Plan and execute major equipment rebuilds according to OEM specification so as to prolong the life of the machinery and maximise production
• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors- communicate work scope and monitor that its carried out as stipulated
• Ensure completion of work in time and good safety compliance
• Communication- Carry out all communications with the suppliers and subcontractors, follow up on warranty products and make claims where necessary
• Inspect suppliers work sites to ensure their eligibility to perform quality work supply
• Backlog jobs- Follow up requested pending spares and plan for backlog jobs, ensure that premature failures of major components from suppliers are rectified accordingly
• Request and receive correct required material to assist Engineering team, advice stores on technical information
• To update Engineering team in advance about the performance and hours on components in order to avoid complete failure and secondary damage
• Monitoring of availability, utilization and running hours of machines on a daily and weekly basis
• Modernizing of the engineering management system by computerizing the system
• Group R mining and Exploration was in charge of running day to day mining operations of Mopani SOB shaft and development works

• Providing technical support and services to various companies both in Zambia and Southern Africa
• Services included machinery diagnosis using vibration analysis, Laser alignment of shafts, dynamic balancing of rotating equipment and non-destructive testing (Magnetic Particle Testing, Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing and Visual inspection)
• Plants worked on for monthly routine Maintenance include; Chemaf Mine (Congo DRC), Zambia Sugar Plc, Ruashi Mine (Congo DRC), Lafarge Cement, Ndola, Mulonga water and Sewerage Company (Chingola, Mufulira and Chililabombwe Sites), Others include Lumwana Mine, Kansanshi Mine, KCM, Mopani, Dangote etc

- Under went a training program to familiarize with maintenance works and operations.

-Conducted Pms and attended to breakdowns

-Conducted alignment of motor and pump shafts

• Research project on Sanitation and Hygiene in Peri-urban Settlement of Lusaka, Zambia
