Title: Alternative Models of ART Delivery: Optimizing the Benefits

Objective: To generate system-level data on the scale, scope, outcomes, and impact of differentiated service delivery (DSD) models in Zambia

Key Role/Responsibilities:

Closely collaborated with the Zambia Ministry of Health (MoH) Directorate of Human Resource Planning & Development Unit and Muchinga Provincial Health Office (PHO) teams to support health workforce capacity building for Skilled Birth Attendants (SBAs); and increase access to Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) for women and newborns in 32 EmONC facilities across 4 target districts.

Project Technical Assistance

  • Coordinated projects health workforce capacity building support to MoH for Skilled Birth Attendants (SBAs) in Zambia:
  • (1) Prepared payments request (high as K13million) for fund disbursement to MoH for specialist training support.
  • (2) Collaborated with MoH accounts department and training institutions (universities/Colleges) to reconcile payment records for disbursed funds.
  • (3) Collaborated with MoH and training institutions (universities & Colleges) across Zambia to conduct project audit and verification activities.
  • Coordinated implementation of project’s system strengthening strategies in close collaboration with Muchinga PHO to enhance SBA mentorship and supervision systems using best practices, and improve maternal and neonatal referral systems in 4 target districts (Chinsali, Mpika, Shiwan'gandu, Chama).
  • Collaborated with 32 EmONC supported facilities to identify EmONC equipment needs, and supported procurement and coordinated equipment distribution.
  • Planned and coordinated EmONC capacity building trainings of 120 service providers and clinical instructors from health facilities and training institutions.
