- I was later elevated to the position of PRINCIPAL ENGINEER- EXTERNALLY FUNDED PROJECTS under the Construction and Rehabilitation Department. My main duties and accountabilities were as follows,
- General Contract Management – i.e., Construction supervision, working closely with Consultants and Contractors, conducting/attending monthly site meetings and provide responses to correspondence on the project, ensuring that resolutions of project site meetings are actioned.
- Maintaining effective communication on the project and ensuring the right and appropriate expertise is on the project.
- Contract Cost Control and Management – i.e., adjudication of variation order requests on contracts, preparation of addenda on contracts where necessary, verification of advance payment guarantees and performance or retention bonds, verification and processing of interim payment certificates (IPCs), verification & processing final payment claims (final accounts).
- Contract Quality Management – i.e., Conducting monthly site inspections and review project progress reports.
- General Contract Administration – development and preparation of quarterly project progress reports based on site visits conducted, preparation of quarterly cash flow projections for projects.

- Consultancy Services for the Design Review and Construction Supervision of the Rehabilitation of the 210km Chinsali – Nakonde (T2) Road in Muchinga Province. (Consultant : Civil Planning Group (CPG) Limited). Contract duration was forty-four (44) months and the scope of services was Design Review and Construction Supervision of the Civil Works.
- Construction of the Chinsali - Isoka Road Rehabilitation Project (North-South Corridor) Lot 1 Section (km 0 - km 103). (Contractor: Messrs. China State Engineering Corporation). Consultant: Civil and Planning Group (CPG). Contract Value: ZMW 857,207,335.29 VAT Inclusive. Duration: 40 Months (3 years 4months). Commenced on April 15, 2019.
- Chinsali - Nakonde Road Rehabilitation Project (North-South Corridor) Lot 2 Isoka - Nakonde Road Section (km 103 - km 210). (Contractor: Messrs. China Railway Seventh Group Limited) Consultant: Civil and Planning Group (CPG). Contract value: ZMW 778,763,747.49 VAT Exclusive. Duration of 40 Months (3years 4 months). Commenced on April 23, 2019.
Scope of Work of the Project
· Mainly comprising the rehabilitation and widening of an existing bituminous surfaced road with only minor modifications of the alignment geometry and including; Site Clearing, extension and construction of new drainage structures, bridge repairs, associated erosion and scour protection, new pavement layers (Asphalt concrete base and surfacing with crushed stone base, and cement stabilized, mainly in-situ, reprocessed and natural gravel subbase layer). Provision and installation/application of road signs and road markings.
- Consultancy Services for the Design Review and Construction Supervision for the Pilot Project for Climate Resilience (PPCR)-Improvement to Climate Resilient Standards of Strategic Roads in the Kafue River Sub-Basin for the Output and Performance Based Contracts (OPRC). (Consultant: Roughton International Associates in BCHOD Consulting Engineers). Contract Value : USD 1,496,613.00 and ZMW 8,657,199.00. Contract Duration : Five (5) Years. Scope of Services : Design Review and Construction Supervision of the Civil Works.
- Pilot Project for Climate Resilience (PPCR)-Improvement to Climate Resilient Standards of Strategic Roads in the Kafue River Sub-Basin for the Output and Performance Based Contracts (OPRC). (Contractor: Messrs. China State Engineering Corporation). (Consultant: Roughton International Limited in association with BCHOD). Contract value: USD 18, 768,644.04 VAT Exclusive. Commenced on August 2017. Duration: 60 Months (5 years). This project was completed in November 2022.
Scope of Work for the Project
- Setting out,construction of site offices for the Engineer, site clearance (clearing and grubbing), reshaping or road formation, roadbed preparation and compaction of material to 93% MOD AASHTO, drainage works-provision and laying of new single and double concrete pipe culverts; provision and laying of multi-cell rectangular portal culverts and the construction of side, mitre, and outfall drains, gravelling-construction and compaction to 95% MOD AASHTO of the gravel wearing course, removal of existing culverts, demolition of existing concrete, brick or stone masonry drifts, walls, and slabs, accommodation of traffic. The finished carriageway width was to be 5.5m, except on some high fills and embankments where the finished carriageway went up to 7.5m in width.
- Consultancy Services for the Construction Supervision of the Rehabilitation of the Kafue – Mazabuka Road (T2) in Southern Province, Zambia. Consultant : BICON Zambia Limited. Contract Value : USD 459,128.00 and ZMW 6,245,440.00. Contract Duration : Twenty-four (24) months. Scope of Services : Construction Supervision of the Civil Works. This Project was completed in April 2022.
- Rehabilitation of the 38.5km Kafue – Mazabuka Road (T2), Section Turnpike - Chikankata in Southern Province, Zambia. Contractor: Messrs. China Henan International Cooperation (CHICO). Consultant: BICON Zambia Limited. Contract value - ZMW 195,686,758.87 VAT Exclusive. Commenced on April 2020. Duration -24 Months (2 years). This Project Was completed in April 2022.
Scope of Work for the Project
- Clearing and grubbing, extension of existing and construction of new drainage structures, associated erosion and scour protection, earthworks, new pavement layers (asphalt concrete base and surfacing with crushed stone base, and cement stabilised, mainly in situ, reprocessed and natural gravel subbase layer). Provision and instillation/application of road signs and road markings, etc.
- Consultancy Services for the Design and Construction Supervision of the Mwami-Mchinji (Zambia/Malawi) One Stop Border Post. Consultant : SMEC International Limited. Contract Value : USD 1,702,470.00. Contract Duration : Twenty-four (24) months. Scope of Services : Design and Construction Supervision of the Civil Works. The Project was completed in October 2022.
- Construction of the Mwami-Mchinji (Zambia/Malawi) One Stop Border Post. Contractor - China State Engineering Corporation. Consultant: SMEC International Limited. Contract value - USD 8,531,152.78 VAT Exclusive. Commenced on December 5, 2018. Duration - 36 Months (3years). The Project was completed in October 2022 and has since been launched and currently operational.
Scope of Work of the Project
Construction of three main buildings – a Passenger Clearing Terminal and Administration (Block A), Police Block (Block B) and a Cargo Clearing Warehouse (Block C). Construction of Circulation Roads, Parking Bays, Scanner Building, and several minor structures. Provide the border facilities with electricity, water and waste-water connections as well as state-of-the-art communication facilities.
All the above-mentioned Projects have since been completed and were fully funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) through loan agreements signed by the Government of the Republic of Zambia.
